After Herts County Council set a 0% budget increase it came as no surprise that Hertsmere followed suit. But your councillors have also been busy with other topics. On licensing there was naturally consensus on the need to protect children when granting a licence to lap-dancing clubs and restricting off-licence sales. The new “off-watch” enables licensees to keep in contact with each other, with the police and with the council to protect children as well as their own livelihood.
Despite the recession, as planning committee members we still have to deal with developer pressure on back gardens and green spaces across Hertsmere.
Our scrutiny committee members have taken the lead in criticising the county for cutting bus services without due notice and they have found gaps between the county and the district council provision for our youth. Our young people deserve better and so we have used our Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) money to help them.
